Be a Rock Star Camp
Niños del Sol is always looking for exciting camp ideas. Last year we hosted a Nature-Art camp and LEGO Camp with great success and enthusiasm. This year we will be hosting two camps simultaneously: an Eco-Camp for ages 4 to 7, which will include the Nature-Art activities we enjoyed last year, and a Rock-Music Camp for ages 7 to 12. Both camps cost $100 for the week and run from 9 am to 2:30 pm.
Teacher Joshua and Teacher Miranda will be leading the Eco and Nature-Art Camp but will also assist in the Rock-Camp, bringing the kids together at times for certain activities. The special guests who helped Miranda prepare the NDS students for their holiday celebration are back to enhance the music program at NDS and will lead the "Be a Rock Star" Camp. Kevin Shredder and Shannon Shade both have extensive backgrounds in the music industry. I'll let their biographies speak for themselves. One thing is for certain, this is a camp that is not to be missed. We hope you will join us and that the Be a Rock Start Camp will grow so that NDS will forever be electrified!!!
About the Artists
Kevin Shredder is a multi-faceted and passionate professional with more than ten years of experience in entertainment coordination and stage management. He oversees performer recruitment, event scheduling, budgets, promotions, marketing, equipment maintenance, and stage maintenance to ensure performances are successful and within budget. Kevin communicates with performers, city officials, marketing teams, and handles financial management, assists in creating contracts, processing payments, filing invoices and reconciliations, and coordinating schedules. In addition he manages a residential project studio and performs recording sessions for local musicians, offering consultations and promotions to artists.
As a musician, Kevin is an accomplished saxophone player with more than twenty years of experience performing in such places as Toronto and Las Vegas in both solo and band arrangements, and as a session player in a number of recording studios throughout North America. Kevin has collaborated with art organizations including Global Fest, Jazz Fest, International Blues Festival and the International Folk Music Festival.
Shannon Shade is a professional singer/musician, entertainer and music teacher. She teaches guitar, bass, drums, keyboard and vocal lessons. Shannon has performed throughout Canada and internationally in places such as Nashville, Las Vegas and the Persian Gulf. In 2002 she became a vocal major, earning a diploma in jazz at Vancouver Island University College in British Columbia, Canada. Since then she has worked in musical theater and performed in bands with styles ranging from country to pop, from rock to R&B. She was a finalist in The David Foster Star Search and won a singing contest that landed her a 3 month gig as the opening act in a Las Vegas production. Recently she has performed with the likes of Nancy Wilson (Heart) and Steven Adler (Guns N' Roses). She has shared the stage with members of Whitesnake, Alice Cooper, Black Sabbath, Dio, and many more.
As a music teacher, Shannon has directed several courses and music camps for kids. She currently teaches performance-based music classes for kids, where they learn how to play all instruments and perform as a band.
