Starting a school is no easy task, especially when you are the new kid on the block. We've had a wonderful three years at our Ocotal Road Campus and expect another excellent year in 2019 with many new families. Although 2018 was our first official year as a school, we have developed our own curriculum, scope and sequence and a way of combining ecology into curriculum. Much of what we have learned will be unveiled over the next couple of months and will be implemented in 2019, including advanced language curriculum in both English and Spanish. So, it is with great excitement that we announce the opening of our Earth Campus.

Our Earth Campus, located in Playas del Coco, has an ocean and mountain view. Phase One of our project will be an outside learning and conservation area equipped with outdoor covered classrooms and an amphitheater. The campus has access to several mountain trails -- there are marsh areas and rivers adjacent to the property which are perfect for exploring new areas of biodiversity.

We are welcoming partnerships with other schools interested in connecting curriculum to ecology and we will share our curriculum as well. We invite you to join our mailing list for more details about this project.

Phase Two will begin mid-year with a full Eco-build -- a facility made of earth! This new building will allow us to grow our student body and attract families looking for an integrated learning and holistic school experience. Building with earth lowers our construction costs but also limits construction waste. Furthermore, we will eliminate the unnecessary use of air conditioning on site. Using the thermal mass of the mountain and walls along with passive cooling methods, our learning spaces will be kept cool. The round forms of the earth domes provide a playful environment that is comforting to children. We will share building designs and progress with you on our YouTube channel. Please subscribe to follow this exciting journey!

And it doesn't stop there! We have big plans for our current location as well. If we meet our enrollment goals for 2019, we will be developing the Ocotal Road Campus into an aquatic facility. It is our hope that this facility will be used by all schools in our area and abroad as we partner with ocean pioneers from around the globe.

You can help us make this dream a reality by sharing information about Niños del Sol Eco School online, donating to the school through Patreon or connecting us with like-minded schools and individuals.

Enrollment is now open. We are permitted to accept 25 students. Once those places have been filled, others wishing to enroll will be placed on a waiting list. Contact us today if you are interested in joining us at any point in 2019.
